GHUCCTS Research Grand Rounds

Research Grand Rounds Presents: “Addressing the Opioid Crisis: Strategies for Engaging and Retaining Persons with Opioid Use Disorder in Effective Treatment”

Sponsor: MHRI and GHUCCTS
Time: 12 - 1:30 PM (lunch provided at 1 PM)
Location: MedStar Washington Hospital Center, 6th Floor, CTEC Auditorium, 110 Irving Street NW, Washington DC 20010
Speaker: Richard Schottenfeld, MD

Following medical and psychiatry training at Yale, Dr. Schottenfeld joined the faculty there, rose to the rank of professor, founded an addiction psychiatry residency program, led a T32-supported addiction clinical research training program, and developed an innovative multidisciplinary faculty career development program focused on the evaluation, management, and treatment of substance use disorders. He has directed numerous clinical trials of medications and behavioral treatments for substance use disorders and comorbid psychiatric disorders or chronic pain. His research has been both translational and transformational in bringing new treatments to the clinic, to the community, and in changing models of care in addictions treatment. Indeed, his early studies of buprenorphine helped support its approval for treatment of opioid use disorder. His local and international research and training efforts have been supported for decades by R01, T32, and K24 grants from the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Last year, our colleagues at Howard University were fortunate to recruit Dr. Schottenfeld as professor and chair of the department of psychiatry and behavioral sciences. He will share his discipline and translational stage-spanning research on “Addressing the Opioid Crisis: Strategies for Engaging and Retaining Persons with Opioid Use Disorder in Effective Treatment.”
